I met up with Kelli and Rylie for a mom & daughter session at the end of May, when the flowers were just peeking out for their rare, late spring time appearance. Kelli is a longtime friend of mine, and I have captured all of Rylie’s milestones so far, so I was honoured to capture another session of the two of them. 

The blossoms only last a few days here in Edmonton, and this year, they were a week late to bloom. Between graduations, weddings, birthdays and other commitments, May was an extremely busy month. Luckily, with our crazy schedules we found one day that we were able to make it work. It just so happened the night before our session the blossoms finally bloomed! We were both relieved and thrilled to be able to enjoy that natural beauty, especially since two days after our session, a huge wind storm knocked most of the blossoms off the trees.

Not only was I lucky enough to have this stunning backdrop, but I also had the best subjects in front of my lens. It seems like not long ago I was capturing Curt & Kelli’s maternity photos, which makes it all the more unbelievable that Rylie is already two and a half! She is an amazing little person filled with spark and personality, so photographing her is always an adventure.

I loved when Kelli would whisper in Rylie’s ear to get her to giggle and laugh during this session. That kind of real emotion is what creates the best images. I couldn’t have asked for better smiles! Their love is so precious and I was so happy to capture it.
