Last month I met up with the Leliuk’s for a family session in their home near Mundare, AB. I last captured their family photos in 2015, but since Taya joined the family a year ago, it was time to update!

Carlee and Justin have three beautiful children. Kayden is the oldest, and both he and Jayce adore their baby sister. That little girl will have some very protective big brothers as she grows up, and it’s clear she loves being in on the fun with them as well!

For this session, I let the kids show off their personalities by doing what they wanted to do. Since this was a lifestyle session, it was fun watching the boys read their favourite Gretzky books, hang off the bed, show off their hockey skills, and just be able to be themselves to get those true, happy smiles and genuine laughter. I feel that’s the best way to capture a family session with young children especially.

Of course, it wasn’t all running around and playing. One of my favourite moments was when the whole family sat in one of the boys bedrooms and read through some books. I suggested to have some downtime and a break from looking at the camera, and from that I loved the quiet moment of togetherness.

I was also personally entertained because there was a small mix-up of identities when I intially introduced myself to the boys. Because I had done their family portraits a couple years ago and knowing each other through mutual friends, Carlee had asked the boys if they remembered who I was, and my boyfriend Connor. Now, these two are huge hockey fans and both play, and with the Edmonton Oilers being in the playoffs, the biggest “Connor” in their lives right now is the captain of the Oilers, Connor McDavid. Their eyes lit up at the mention of his name, because my cool factor with them just went way up! I didn’t end up clarify exactly which Connor I am dating haha.

Justin & Carlee, thank you for choosing me to capture your families milestones. I loved seeing how much your family has grown. You are such a beautiful, genuine, fun-loving family, and I can’t wait to see you all again!
